Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
